Monster and Zombie Cake Pops by Bakerella

Serves 48

Ingredients

  • 16oz Bakerella Colored Candy Wafers (16 oz each of Sky Blue, Party Pink, Sunny Yellow, and Bright Green)
  • 3oz Bakerella Marshmallow White Candy Wafers
  • 10oz Ready-made Frosting
  • 9x13 " Cake
  • 60 M&M's
  • 24 Banana Shaped Fruit Candies
  • 24 Candy Coated Sunflower Seeds or Other Small Candies
  • Black or Chocolate Jimmies

Kitchenware

  • 108 Bakerella DIY Sugar Eyes with Black Edible-ink Pen
  • 48 Bakerella Pop Sticks
  • 4 Deep, Microwave-safe Plastic Bowls
  • Toothpicks
  • Styrofoam Block

Directions

Step 1 Crumble cake into a large mixing bowl. Add three-quarters of the container of frosting. (You will not need the remaining frosting.) Mix it into the crumbled cake, using the back of a large spoon, until thoroughly combined.
Step 2 Roll mixture into 1 1/2-inch balls and place them on wax paper
Step 3 To make the yellow monsters: Melt the yellow candy wafers in one of the deep microwave-safe bowls, following the instructions on the package. Remove 12 cake balls from the refrigerator, keeping the rest chilled. Attach 5 M&M
Step 4 To make the blue monsters: Melt the blue candy wafers in the second deep microwave-safe bowl, following the instructions on the package. Shape 12 cake balls into rounded triangles. Attach 2 candy-coated sunflower seeds to each cake ball with melted candy wafers and let dry. These will form the ears. Dip about 1?2 in of the tip of a pop stick into the melted candy wafers and insert the dipped end straight into the bottom of a cake ball, pushing it no more than halfway through. Dip the cake pop with sunflower seeds attached into the melted coating. Gently lift the pop out of the coating and tap off any excess. Stand the pop in the Styrofoam block. Repeat with the other 11 cake balls. Let dry completely.
Step 5 To make the pink monsters: Melt the pink candy wafers in the third deep microwave-safe bowl, following the instructions on the package. Shape 12 cake balls into rounded triangles. Dip about 1?2 in of the tip of a pop stick into the melted candy wafers and insert the dipped end straight into the bottom of a cake ball, pushing it no more than halfway through. Dip the cake pop into the melted coating. Gently lift the pop out of the coating and tap off any excess. Before the coating sets, attach 2 banana-shaped candies in position for horns. Stand the pop in the Styrofoam block. Repeat with the other 11 cake balls. Let dry completely.
Step 6 To make the zombies: Melt the green candy wafers in the fourth microwave-safe bowl, following the instructions on the package. Remove the remaining cake balls from the refrigerator. Before the coating sets, attach several black jimmies in position for hair. Stand the pop in the Styrofoam block. Repeat with the other 11 cake balls. Let dry completely.
Step 7 When the monsters and zombies are dry, attach sugar eyes in position for eyes with melted candy coating.
Step 8 Use the black edible-ink writing pen to draw on pupils, smiles, and big mouths.
Step 9 Use a toothpick dipped in the melted colored candy wafers of your choice to dot and draw on spots, noses, eyebrows, tongues, or rotting teeth.
Step 10 Melt the white candy wafers in the small, microwave safe bowl, following the instructions on the package. Use a toothpick to draw different shaped teeth and dotted eyes.
Step 11 Let the cake pops dry completely in the Styrofoam block.

Get creative. Mix and match monsters, candy colors, candy shapes, and number of eyes and sprinkles on each pop.
