  • 1/3 cup Corn Syrup
  • Powdered Sugar or Cocoa Powder for Dusting

  • Large Microwave-safe Bowl
  • Rubber Spatula
  • Plastic Wrap
  • Small Knife and Scissors
  • Small Rolling Pin or Plastic Bowl Scraper

Step 1 Melt the dark chocolate candy wafers in a large microwave-safe bowl according to package instructions.
Step 2
Once melted, add in all the corn syrup and stir with rubber spatula. The mixture will look a little seized and will NOT be smooth. Do not over mix.

Step 3
Scrape mixture out of bowl and onto a sheet of plastic wrap. Wrap blob completely and allow to rest at room temperature for several hours or overnight. The candy clay will appear to be quite firm – this is what you want.

Step 4
When the candy clay is firm, use the knife to break off a walnut sized piece of clay. Working it in your hands, create a cone shaped base for the rose to be built on.

Step 5
Cut a large piece of candy clay off the block, and knead it in your hands until smooth. Roll into a log, and divide into 9 marble sized pieces.

Step 6 One at a time, form the pieces into a patty. With the rolling pin, thin out one side making the edge very thin. Do this to all 9 petals. Use confectioner’s sugar or cocoa powder to keep the candy clay from sticking.
Step 7
Begin by wrapping one petal around the candy cone to form the bud. The thin edge of the petal will always be pointed out – the thick part will hold each petal to the base.

Step 8
Follow that with a row of three petals around the bud, overlap as necessary.
Candy Clay Chocolate Rose - Step 8
Step 9 The last row is the remaining 5 petals, overlapping to ensure that they all fit.
Step 10
Press the base of the rose to ensure that it holds together. Trim the base with scissors to remove the excess clay.
